Taking on additional debt could have a negative effect of the US’ credit rating. This would decrease foreign countries’ incentive to lend to us as they are know. Less credit would make SLABS even more risky, because the government is the one backing them. Too much debt would make it harder to deploy capital on other government initiatives, such as space travel or invading foreign countries. It could also make the government less equipped to bailout future crises.
